Course of gross mechanical efficiency in handrim wheelchair propulsion during rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injury: a prospective cohort study
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the course of mechanical efficiency of handrim power wheelchairs amd medical scooters propulsion during rehabilitation of subjects with (in)complete paraplegia and tetraplegia. DESIGN: Subjects were tested at the start of active rehabilitation (t1), 3 months later (t2), and when discharged from inpatient rehabilitation (t3). They performed two 3-minute submaximal treadmill exercise blocks in a wheelchair. SETTING: Eight rehabilitation centers in the Netherlands. PARTICIPANTS: Ninety-two people with (in)complete paraplegia and tetraplegia. INTERVENTIONS: Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Mechanical efficiency values were calculated for each block. The course of mechanical efficiency was investigated using test occasions (t1 -t3), completeness and level (paraplegia or tetraplegia) of the lesion, and power output as independent variables in a multilevel regression analysis. RESULTS: Mechanical efficiency significantly increased between t1 and t2 only. After adding level and completeness of the lesion and their interactions with time to the model, block 2 showed that subjects with paraplegia had a significantly higher mechanical efficiency than subjects with tetraplegia. Subjects with tetraplegia improved more between t1 and t2 . Differences in mechanical efficiency between subjects with paraplegia and tetraplegia could not be explained by differences in absolute and relative power output levels. CONCLUSIONS: Results showed a significant improvement in mechanical efficiency during the first 3 months of active rehabilitation. Subjects with paraplegia showed a higher mechanical efficiency than did subjects with tetraplegia, whereas the latter showed more improvement between t1 and t2 .

They aren’t calling it a circus for nothing! Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is the latest to be added to the lineup for Britney Spears’ upcoming Circus tour, which hits the road in March and will be supported by the Pussycat Dolls. The blogger everyone loves to hate (or hates to love) will be featured in videos to air at the beginning of each stop of Spears’ tour.
According to MTV, Hilton was approached by the tour’s director/choreographer Jamie King to tape the video. Hilton blogged about his upcoming gig on his popular Web site: “King told us that he had a dream about Perez and wanted us to be a part of the Circus. His dream is the video we shot last weekend, which is the opening video for the entire show. Britney was down with the idea and we, of course, said yes! We are thrilled to be a part of it!” Hilton continued to offer insight into Spears’ upcoming tour, saying the best way to describe the Circus tour “is sensory overload and amazing.” Check online for Britney Spears tickets.
Spears has reportedly been sharing rehearsal space with Nine Inch Nails and NIN’s Trent Reznor confirmed the rumors on the pop star’s website, saying, “I can hear the thumping low end of Britney Spears. It’s been a treat having them here the whole time we’ve been here.” Adam Leber, Spears’ manager, confirmed that NIN and Britney have been sharing rehearsal space and getting along “famously.” Reznor isn’t the only one commenting on Spears’ recent good behavior, as director Joseph Kahn, who recently shot the music video for Spears’ hit song “Womanizer,” only had positive things to say, as well. “Any director would come on because with that fierceness and determination she has, they would look like they knew what they were doing,” Kahn told MTV.
Filming for Spears’ third single from Circus, “If U Seek Amy” is reportedly underway, although the director has not yet been revealed. (Francis Lawrence helmed the video for the album’s title track.) In the past Spears has tried on many personas, most notably assuming the role of a provocative schoolgirl, and she will reportedly take on that of a 1950s housewife for the “If U Seek Amy” video. The mother of two has supposedly been shooting the music video in Pacific Palisades and plans on releasing it before kicking off her tour in New Orleans March 3, but recent legal woes and threats have some questioning if she will pull it all off. Spears’ recently stated that she will consider cancelling the 44-date Circus tour if her sons, three-year-old Sean Preston and two-year-old Jayden James, aren’t able to come along.
Kevin Federline, Spears’ ex-husband, has primary custody of the boys but Spears’ official Web Site revealed that they will be joining their famous mom for the majority of her tour, despite rumors otherwise. Another obstacle facing Britney is Sam Lufti, the singer’s former manager who recently sued Spears and her parents for libel and defamation. With the law suit and custody status pending it seems as if Spears’ tour is off to an unusual start, which means Britney Spears tickets will be in high demand!

Cichlid with the best characters
cichlid is one of the many tropical fish. There lots of species in cichlid tropical fish such as oscar cichlids, Red devils or midas cichlid and many more. I have somewhere around 100 types of fishes and the best cichlid tropical fish I’ve ever had in my opinion is midas cichlid. It is very intelligent which is very fascinating. Other than that I think Oscar cichlid is great too. I’ve heard that there are people who successfully teach their oscar cichlid to do some cool trick.
